The gluppy muck that is fizzy drink concentrate accounted for something of a surge in Irish exports to Mexico last year. Recent CSO figures show goods exports to the Latin American state rose from €691 million in 2013 to €1.2 billion last year.

The increase related to a jump in exports of what the CSO classifies as SITC 55151 – defined as mixtures of odoriferous substances and mixtures of a kind used in the drink industries – aka soft drink concentrate.

According to sources, the produce didn’t just emanate from one Irish-based company either, but several. Are the Mexicans slurping more pop with their burritos or has this got something to do with EU-US trade negotiations?
