Aer Rianta will charge higher aircraft landing charges to airlines which decline to use new check-in terminals at Dublin airport, writes Arthur Beesley.
Chief executive Mr John Burke said the common user terminal equipment system, or CUTE, was used in 50 per cent of all flights.
The system enables individual airlines to use different check-in desks when boarding aircraft. The older system confines airlines to dedicated terminals only.
Mr Burke said: "The desks that don't have CUTE should cost more because they're less efficient."
Asked when charges might increase, he said: "I would see that happening in the new year." He declined to reveal how such charges might increase. Among the airlines which do not use the system are Aer Lingus and Ryanair. [SBX]
Separately, Aer Rianta has appointed a director of capital programmes, completing the restructuring of its management team commenced two years ago.
Mr Mark Foley (39) will be responsible for delivering on investments worth £100 million (€127 million) annually in this new position.
An engineer, Mr Foley joins Aer Rianta from Industrial Print Group, where he was managing director. He previously worked at Loctite.
