More than 30 workers are to be made redundant at ADC Software Systems in Galway as part of the company's worldwide restructuring programme.
Management and technical staff are among the 33 workers who will lose their jobs early next month.
This will bring the workforce at the Galway plant, located at the IDA Business Park in Dangan, down to fewer than 170.
Management notified the employees, most of whom are software developers, on Tuesday of the decision to lay them off.
The company, however, has refused to discuss the redundancy package on offer.
ADC's vice-president in Galway, Mr Oliver Daniels, said it was regrettable that this decision had to be taken but it was done in order to maintain the company's competitiveness and to safeguard its further growth objectives.
The Galway facility would continue to be an integral part of ADCs worldwide software systems business, he added.
Over a year and a half ago, ADC Software Systems took over the old Saville Systems in a £540 million (€686 million) buy-out.
The company, which has its headquarters in Minnesota in the US, is a leading global supplier of computer software and systems.
The company has reduced its global workforce by 250 employees, including both management and technical employees at its Edmonton, Toronto, and Galway plants.
