THE Automobile Association has said it is strongly opposed to a suggested five pence per gallon increase in the petrol prices in the January Budget. "It is a fundamental error to increase tax revenue by the simplistic method of adding to the motorists' burden, according to AA public affairs manager, Mr Conor Faughnan. The motoring sector contributes £1.5 billion a year to the exchequer of which only 25 per cent is spent on motoring related areas, according to Mr Faughnan.
