THE DOOM and gloom surrounding the banking system and the recession have not deterred at least two financial advisers in Dublin from offering dollar-related investment opportunities to clients.

GlobalReach Securities has launched a US Dollar Bond, which takes a punt on the currency outperforming its peers over the next two and a half years.

It has 95 per cent capital protection from Bank of Ireland and requires a minimum investment of €25,000. The fund closes on October 17th.

Separately, BDO Simpson Xavier has teamed up with New Ireland Assurance and US-based Advanced Equities Financial Corporation to launch the Venture Capital Opportunities Fund. This is aimed at investing in late-stage VCs that are at a pre-IPO stage but require private funding given that stock market flotations are currently a non-runner.

BDO held an investor day at the Conrad Hotel in Dublin last week where more than 100 clients turned up to hear the pitch.

“We’ve been looking at this since March,” said BDO partner Michelle O’Keeffe. “We think it’s the right time to take a dollar exposure but it was about finding the right asset class.” They are looking at 10-15 investments in IT and green technology companies and want to raise $30 million (€21.7 million). The investment term is seen as three to five years.
