NORSE Irish Ferries has announced a £90 million investment in two new super ferries for the Belfast Liverpool route. The first, the Mersey Viking, which was built in an Italian yard, is to go into service on the route next month. The firm intends to introduce daytime crossings in addition to the existing overnight services and to increase the number of passengers carried on what had previously been a mainly freight service. The new ferries will be able to carry double the number of passengers and increase Norse roll on, roll off freight capacity by a third.
