Cork-based food manufacturer Carbery has reported a pretax profit of €2.7 million for 2009, up from €800,000 in 2008.
The 152 per cent rise in pretax profits was achieved despite a fall of almost 10 per cent in its turnover to €183.8 million.
Carbery – which makes food ingredients, flavours and cheese – said it had made operating losses in its dairy division due to weakness in consumer demand and an unfavourable sterling exchange rate, which weighed on cheese prices.
