Adare Manor Hotel and Golf Resort will stage the inaugural Women's World Cup from September 15th-17th. The event boasts a £500,000 prize fund and will feature 20, two-member teams. The format will be 54 holes strokeplay with prizes for the leading teams as well an individual reward.

The winning team will receive £100,000, second £60,000 and the third placed duo £40,000. The leading individual golfer will receive a cheque for £25,000.

The tournament, which has received the backing of Bord Failte and is being run in conjunction with the Evian (Women's European) Tour, should attract a host of quality players.

Laura Davies has already confirmed her participation. The Minister for Sport, Dr McDaid, speaking at yesterday's announcement, said: "The event is the first World Cup of women's professional golf and it is a source of some pride that Ireland, with its strong golfing tradition should host the inaugural tournament.

"It is a truly international event. And I have no doubt that, just as with other tournaments, each of the competitors will go back to their own country with unforgettable memories of Ireland."

The first player in each of the competing national teams will qualify through the Evian money list, while the second will be chosen by the World Cup Championship Committee, headed by former Solheim Cup captain Mickey Walker.

The competing countries will be announced at the beginning of August and the players confirmed later that month. The superbly appointed Adare Manor should offer a perfect backdrop.
