All-Ireland SHC B Semi-final/Wicklow ... 1-16 Kildare ... 2-12: Wicklow's hurlers are through to the All-Ireland B final after being given some anxious moments by a resurgent Kildare in yesterday's semi-final at Dr Cullen Park, Carlow.
For most of the game Wicklow looked the more accomplished side, but they never fully subdued the opposition.
They were in control for the first 20 minutes, building up a 0-6 to 0-1 lead through the industry and accuracy of forwards Wayne O'Gorman, Don Hyland, Edward Kennedy and John Keogh, their free-taker.
But Kildare hit back and with free-taker and midfielder Pádraic Reidy picking off some neat points, including a couple from long range, the Lilywhites were within a point of their opponents at half-time: 0-7 to 0-6.
A Wicklow goal from Edward Kennedy 14 minutes into the second half followed by a John Keogh point seemed to signal the end of Kildare resistance as Wicklow led 1-11 to 0-7.
But a brace of Kildare goals - one from corner forward Adrian McAndrew and the other from substitute Tom Carew - reawakened the game as a contest.
However, Kildare never managed to go in front at any stage and Wicklow just about deserved their slender win.
The Garden County team was reduced to 14 men late in the game when a second yellow card was issued to centre back Michael A O'Neill.
