News: Referee John Denton was assaulted and had to be escorted from the pitch as violent scenes marred the end of the Wexford senior football championship semi-final at Wexford Park on Saturday between Duffry Rovers and winners Horeswood.
County hurling goalkeeper Damian Fitzhenry, playing for Duffry, received a straight red card following an off-the-ball incident three minutes from the end of the game, which his club lost by 0-11 to 1-10.
Immediately on the final whistle Denton was surrounded by Duffry Rovers players and supporters before the arrival of stewards. Several blows were thrown in the tunnel under the stand as stewards and county board officers escorted Denton to safety.
Donnacha Sheehan kept Adare on track for a hat-trick of Limerick senior hurling titles with two late points to earn a 1-13 to 1-12 victory over Kilmallock in a sensational finish to their semi-final replay at the Gaelic Grounds yesterday.
In Longford, goals in the space of four minutes from captain John Minnock and footballer Paul Barden early in the second half put Clonguish well on the road to a first county senior hurling championship success at Pearse Park on Saturday. They beat Wolfe Tones by 3-9 to 1-5.
