Kildare SFC Final: Round Towers 2-14 Kilcock 1-9 Round Towers reclaimed the Kildare senior football title with a powerful first-half performance in the decider at Newbridge yesterday. The winners, who last won the title five years ago, led from start to finish in a one-sided tie.
County player Brian Lacey got their opening score and they were in the driving seat as early as the third minute when Padraig Golden scored a goal.
John O'Donoghue opened Kilcock's account with a free-kick from close range but Kilcock were simply outclassed all over the park and made little impression during a very one-sided first half.
Padraig Mullarkey combined with Glenn Ryan for the second goal midway through the half and Kilcock were 11 points behind by the time they got their second score.
Kilcock started the second half trailing by 2-7 to 0-2 and badly needed a goal to resurrect their chances. Instead they were to fall even further behind when the winners got the first three scores of the second half.
Kilcock showed considerable improvement in the final quarter of the game without ever threatening to change the outcome.
They landed a goal late in the game through Paddy Mulligan but although they finished strongly they simply failed to secure enough scores to mount a credible challenge.
