Pool C Preview: South Africa v Georgia Sydney, 11 a.m.South Africa need to win their remaining pool C games against Georgia and Samoa to assure themselves of a place in the World Cup quarter-finals but should have few problems clearing the first of those hurdles today.
The Springboks will be looking for a convincing performance in their country's first match against the eastern Europeans at the Sydney Football Stadium, to get their campaign back on track after last week's loss to England.
Georgia have been heavily beaten in their pool matches against England and Samoa and are using their remaining two games just to gain experience for the future.
"Their team is very big, they have a lot of experience and they are strong," Georgia captain Vasil Katsadze said. "I think that this year they have not been at their very best but it is still going to be difficult for us to play South Africa.
"Against England it's difficult to play in defence. South Africa have good defence but play wide, it's a different type of game."
South Africa coach Rudolf Straeuli has made 13 changes to the side beaten by England, including handing flyhalf Derick Hougaard his first start.
Only loose forward Joe van Niekirk, who moves to number eight from the flank, and lock Bakkies Botha have been retained from the side that lost 25-6 to the English last Saturday.
With a quarter-final looming against tournament favourites New Zealand, Straeuli wants to give all his players a run and the chance to press for selection.
"We are using the whole squad of 22. This is very much a team effort and it does give us options in case someone falls off," he said.
Captain Corne Krige has been rested for the match, while scrumhalf Joost van der Westhuizen is on the bench. Hooker John Smit will lead the side in their absence, becoming the Springboks' 51st test captain.
