Chelsea's World Cup defender Dan Petrescu looks to be on his way out of Stamford Bridge after the club yesterday revealed that they would not stand in the way of a possible £2.5 million move to Dutch giants Ajax.
Petrescu was understood to have been looking for an extension to his current contract at Chelsea when he returned from World Cup duty with Romania in France. But Chelsea player-manager Gianluca Vialli told the 29-year-old that he was not guaranteed a place in his starting XI following the signing of Spanish full-back Albert Ferrer and the return to fitness of Gustavo Poyet. Liverpool midfielder Paul Ince had X-rays last night amid fears that he broke a toe during the Premiership win against Southampton at The Dell on Sunday. If a fracture is confirmed, Ince may be sidelined for up to four weeks.
Arsenal captain Tony Adams has revealed he will retire at the end of this season if a nagging ankle injury continues to blight his playing career.
The 31-year-old defender has to take anti-inflammatory tablets before matches and he is worried that the side-effects may cause permanent damage.
