Everton finally completed the transfer of Steve Simonsen from Tranmere yesterday, The £3.3 million fee makes him Britain's most expensive goalkeeper but he knows he has a fight on his hands to get into Everton's first team.
Simonsen does not expect to go straight into the side for Saturday's home game with Blackburn.
Thomas Myhre, the Howard Kendall purchase who took over from Everton legend Neville Southall last season, is the man in possession of the number one jersey and Simonsen reckons he will have to wait for his big chance.
And the 19 year-old is not worried either by the massive fee, which includes bonuses if the Geordie plays for the full England side and takes part in a substantial number of Premiership matches.
He is Walter Smith's fourth new signing, and will be joined soon - pending a work permit - by Ivory Coast striker Ibrahim Bakayoko for £4.5 million from Montpellier.

Dalglish was in South Yorkshire to see his son Paul play for the reserves. But yesterday Rotherham general manager Phil Henson issued a statement, saying: "Rotherham United have no knowledge of an alleged assault on former Newcastle United manager Kenny Dalglish who was at Millmoor on the evening of September 22nd".
Steve McMahon yesterday resigned as manager of First Division Swindon saying he was moving back to the north west of England for family reasons.
