The president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Juan Antonio Samaranch, said in Sarajevo yesterday he was hoping the 1999 edition of the Tour de France would pass off without a hitch.

Samaranch, speaking at the reopening of an Olympic hall destroyed by the Serb bombardment of Sarajevo in 1992, emphasised that the IOC was only responsible for tackling drugs in an Olympic context.
