Kerry SF Final An Gaelteacht 0-9 Laune Rangers 0-10 Even the presence of former Kerry manager Páidí Ó Sé and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Brian Cowen, in the stand, could not lift An Ghaeltacht past the finishing line, as a Mike Frank Russell-inspired Laune Rangers fought back tenaciously to level at the death in this ferociously fought final before a big crowd at Austin Stack Park in Tralee yesterday.
The result was just about right in the end after Laune Rangers, with fire in their bellies, dominated the opening half and deservedly led 0-5 to 0-3 at the interval.
But An Ghaeltacht, with the hitherto well marshalled Darragh Ó Sé waking from his slumber, took over after the interval and some magnificent points from Aodán MacGearailt and Dara Ó Cinnéide pushed the west Kerry side 0-10 to 0-6 clear with 10 minutes remaining in the match.
However, An Ghaeltacht's propensity to play as individuals was to ultimately cost them dearly as Rangers, powered by the never-say-die spirit of Noel Lynch, Paul Costello, John Sheehan, Liam Hassett and the marauding Russell, who scored four unanswered points, grabbed a draw from the jaws of defeat. The replay has been scheduled for Sunday, October 26th.
