DAVID NICHOLSON has come to the rescue of Saturday's Racing Post Chase at Kempton by declaring four horses at yesterday's five day acceptance stage for the £50,000 guaranteed contest.
Nicholson is therefore responsible for one third of the possible runners after a rather disappointing total of 12 stood their ground yesterday.
The weights have risen by 17lb after the seven highest rated animals were all pulled out, leaving Nicholson's Percy Smollett with top weight of 11st 10lb. Nicholson's other entrants are Call It A Day, Kadi and King Lucifer.
Much interest in the three mile contest is now likely to centre around last year's Grand National runner up Encore Un Peu. Martin Pipe's 10 year old is likely to make his reappearance in the three mile contest as he begins his build up to Aintree.
Djeddah is in the Royal Sun Alliance Chase at the Festival and Doumen yesterday entered Fontweli winner Vol Par Nuit for the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup.
Following a mix up over trains between York and King's Cross, Lorcan Wyer must pass the racecourse doctor at Market Rasen today before making his comeback from injury.
Wyer, whose face has been rebuilt after it was smashed in a fall at Aintree in November, was due to see Dr Michael Turner at the Lawn Tennis International Training Centre in West Kensington yesterday, in order to prove his fitness.
But the 32 year old jockey, booked to ride My Vantage for Mick Easterby in the concluding Market Rasen Intermediate Open National Hunt Flat Race today, experienced problems with the iron horse.
"I had to ring Dr Turner today because train after train after train from York to King's Cross was either cancelled or delayed," said Wyer. "He told me to go to the doctor at Market Rasen tomorrow. I have a ride for Mick Easterby in the bumper and I have got to pass the doctor first but I am very confident I can't see any problems."
. Following heavy rain Carlisle will hold a 7.30 inspection this morning to determine whether today's meeting can go ahead.
