National League, Premier Division: They say football is all about opinions, and very differing ones at that, if both managers at Belfield yesterday are to be believed.
Rovers rescued a point to end their five-match losing run with a 92nd minute Trevor Molloy goal after UCD had regained the lead from a Robert McAuley penalty.
But, in a remarkable verbal attack on his side's opponents, UCD manager Paul Doolin said he wasn't impressed with Rovers' football.
"I thought Rovers were atrocious today, and you can quote me on that," said Doolin. "People have said to me that Rovers were playing outstanding, but for me all they did all day was get the ball to Barry Ryan and whack it up the pitch.
"Maybe I'm missing something. But looking at that, I thought they were very poor and I felt we were outstanding.
"I just think they can't play well. I thought we were outstanding and deserved to win that game."
Liam Buckley, the Rovers manager, was flabbergasted by Doolin's comments. "What planet did he land from?" he asked, "He was obviously looking at a different game to me.
"I felt a draw was a reasonable result in the circumstances. It was certainly the least we deserved from the game and I wouldn't say that UCD were the only team that played football."
The one think that wasn't in doubt was this was a terrific match, ignited by UCD taking the lead with a brilliant goal on 49 minutes.
Alan Cawley skipped past both Jason Colwell and James Keddy on a 40-yard run to force Ryan into a terrific parry save with Darragh Ryan driving home the rebound.
Rovers got back into the match on 64 minutes. Keddy whipped over a superb cross and Glen Fitzpatrick headed past Patrick Jennings.
In the final flurry, Stephen Grant was then guilty of pulling down McAuley and the UCD central defender drove home the penalty with 90 minutes up on the clock.
There was a final twist, though, and a lapse of concentration in the UCD defence presented Molloy with the ball and he shot across Jennings to salvage a point.
