National League Premier Division /Cork City 1 Shamrock Rovers 0: Shamrock Rovers' long run without a win was further extended at Turner's Cross last night when Cork City's free-scoring centre forward John O'Flynn was again a match-winner.
O'Flynn produced his 12th League goal of the season to decide a tight contest in the 65th minute as Cork showed amazing determination to deny Rovers even though they were forced to play for 54 minutes with only 10 men after the dismissal of centre-back Alan Bennett.
Bennett left the referee with no option but to flash the red card when he pulled down Glen Fitzpatrick as the Rovers' centre forward ran clear of the defence in the 36th minute.
O'Flynn struck when goalkeeper Barry Ryan could only parry a powerful volley from Kevin Doyle following a right-wing corner from O'Callaghan and Cork grew in confidence and in effect to retain their advantage.
