What a summer of success it has been for 15-year-old Grainne O'Connor. Winner of the Mitsubishi/Irish Times Ladies Irish Masters title at Glasson last month, the Galway teenager was once again showing her prowess during the recent Ulster Bank All-Ireland Medal Championship at Powerscourt Golf and Country Club.
Playing off a handicap of 22, the Galway Golf Club member - who started the golfing year playing off a handicap of 34 - was the gold medal winner when she recorded a nett score of 71.
In the other categories, the silver medal winner was Roz Burgess (28), from Ballinascorney, with a winning score of 75, while Gort's Teresa Gill was the bronze medal winner with a nett score of 75 off 26.
Meanwhile, in the men's section the honours in the gold medal category went to The Heath's Michael Drennan, an eight handicapper, who won with a nett score of 68.
Anthony Naughton, playing off 10 and from Navan GC, was the silver medal winner, while Ennis' Ian Myatt (11) was the bronze medal winner with a score of 73.
The competition was competed for by the individual medal champions, representing 200 mens and ladies sections of golf clubs.
