UCD 0 Derry C 1:A LATE goal by striker David McDaid was enough to book Derry City their place in the quarter-finals of the FAI Ford Cup after an undistinguished third round clash with UCD at the Belfield Bowl.
College had two early chances as David McMillan and Robert Benson went close to an opener.
Derry should really have taken the lead before the interval when Stephen McLaughlin’s cross from the left was missed by the unmarked Simon Madden.
But it was the men from the Brandywell who were celebrating in the 72nd minute. A corner by Madden on the left was only half pushed out by goalkeeper Mark McGinley and after a poor header by defender Tomas Boyle, striker McDaid fired home the rebound.
Derry’s Stewart Greacen was given his marching orders for a second yellow card offence.
