The Companies Office has struck off Longford Town Football Club Ltd after its directors failed to make any returns for the club for the last five years, writes Emmet Malone.

Eircom League chairman Brendan Dillon said he was aware of the situation at Flancare Park and that a request had been made for information in relation to any problems that might exist with the running of the company, but that assurances had been received that the situation was "in hand".

Club chairman Jim Hanley could not be contacted yesterday, but he said recently that the club is in a strong position having previously experienced some difficulties.

Meanwhile, nine of the new, 10-member FAI board are in place following the election of chairmen to three of the association's committees at Citywest yesterday. Jim McDonnell of the Ulster FA (Domestic committee), the SFAI's Maurice Fleming (Underage committee) and Eddie Murray of Monaghan United (International committee) join Milo Corcoran, David Blood, John Delaney, Brendan Dillon, Kevin Fahy and Fran Rooney on the new board.
