Michael Kinane has emerged as the prime beneficiary of Walter Swinburn's surprise decision to take a week's break from racing due to the recurrence of a weight problem.
Kinane has been booked by Sir Michael Stoute to ride Coronation Stakes winner Exclusive in Tuesday's Juddmonte International Stakes at York. On the same day he will partner Peak Path in the Great Voltigeur Stakes with Frankie Dettori coming in for the mount on Iscan in the Acomb Stakes.
All three rides came up for grabs after Swinburn decided to bypass the Ebor meeting. The three-times Derby-winning jockey, who only returned from a 10-month "sabbatical" earlier this year, hopes to be back in action late next week.
He admitted: "Unfortunately my well-documented weight problems have been proving difficult to control recently. In fairness to myself and the owners and trainers who have been kind enough to support me, I have told them of my intention to take a week out.
"They have all been totally supportive and sympathetic over a decision which means the disappointment of missing the great Ebor meeting at York and the prospect of some marvellous rides. I am grateful to all of them for their understanding.
"Fortunately, I have every confidence that my programme for the next few days will be successful and that I will be race-riding by next Thursday or Friday at the latest and fulfilling my riding commitments at Deauville for the weekend of August 22nd-23rd."
The announcement comes only a week after Swinburn celebrated his 37th birthday and five days after the latest in a long line of Group One victories on Lavery in the Phoenix Stakes at Leopardstown last Sunday.
Swinburn has ridden 51 winners in Britain this year. His lowest riding weight this season has been 8st 8lb.
