Men's Hockey Neville Cup final: It was with some relish that YMCA carried off their first senior trophy for more than a decade when a "golden goal" by David Johnston earned them victory in a crisply fought Neville Cup final at Serpentine Avenue yesterday.Rovers appeared to have a greater grip on the game in the opening half, though it was only in the last minute that Peter McConnell gave them an interval lead with a firmly executed drag flick.

Goalkeeping and general defensive play continued to be of a high order in the second half but a festive flurry suddenly changed the scoreline to 2-2 within three minutes.

First, a thrust by Will Powderly yielded an equaliser by Jason Milne and in the next raid YMCA darted in front as the indefatigable Powderly linked up with his brother Philip, whose centre was forced home by Johnston.

Immediately, Rovers counter-attacked for Niall Denham to send Garry Ringwood clear to restore parity, until the first short corner of extra time gave Johnston the chance to sink the winner.
