Cricket: Ajit Agarkar was the star turn as India followed up a fine first-innings effort with a superb display in the field to give themselves every chance of recording a famous Test win against Australia in Adelaide.
Having finally been bowled out for 523 earlier on day four - Rahul Dravid completing a magnificent 233 - India were inspired by Agarkar who ran through the Australian batting line-up, claiming figures of six for 41, as the hosts were dismissed for just 196. That left India with a victory target of 230 - and more than three sessions in which to get it.
By the close, they had progressed with few alarms to 37 without loss - Virender Sehwag not out on 25 and Akash Chopra unbeaten on 10. Agarkar had set the tone by removing Justin Langer and Ricky Ponting, for a duck, as Australia were reduced to 21 for two at lunch.
Meanwhile, Brian Lara completed a brilliant double century on the fourth day of the first Test in Johannesburg against South Africa but his team ended the day staring defeat in the face. At the close of play, the tourists were languishing on 31 for three after South Africa had declared their second innings on 226 for six to set an unlikely victory target of 378.
Ramnaresh Sarwan was six not out with Lara yet to score after a three-wicket burst by fast bowler Makhaya Ntini who had taken five for 94 in the first innings.
West Indies started the day on 363 for six but ended their first innings on 410 soon after Lara was out for 202. The captain batted more than seven hours, hitting two sixes and 32 fours in his sixth Test double century.
