BACK Richard Hughes to make a happy return to Yarmouth today. The Irishman has created a very favourable impression since going to ride in England less than two years ago and has ridden over 100 winners, mainly for David Loder and Mick Channon.
But he will have unhappy memories of Yarmouth where he picked up an eight day ban for careless riding on Corniche Quest early this month.
However, he has a fine chance of landing the feature race on Shanghai Girl for Loder in the £8,000 added North Walsham Handicap.
The sister to Loder's good miler Bin Rosie was a comfortable winner over this six furlong trip at Redcar in May. And she went very close to a successful handicap debut at Ripon last month.
Hughes should strike earlier for Channon in the Elizabeth Simpson Selling Stakes. His mount, Silca's My Key, is another to have improved with every outing to date, having been well beaten on her debut at Kempton last month.
He ran a fine third behind Buzzby in one of the best two year old sellers of the season at the Newmarket July meeting last time and need only reproduce that form to be hard to beat here.
Pair of Jacks ran his best race on the Flat for some time when fourth at Folkestone three weeks ago and he can make a successful return to jumping in the Champagne Handicap Hurdle at Worcester.
The six year old, successful in three of his last four starts over hurdles, will enjoy the considerable assistance of champion jump jockey Tony McCoy in the saddle.
