Damon Hill continued Jordan's late-season revival claiming fourth place at the Hungarian Grand Prix, but it was Michael Schumacher who proved the star of the show, stretching to a 27second lead in just 19 laps to enable him to make a third pit stop and rejoin the race ahead of the McLarens of David Coulthard and Mika Hakkinen.

Schumacher's 10-point victory throws the championship race wide open again as Hakkinen yesterday developed mechanical problems, was passed by Jacques Villeneuve, Hill and HeinzHarald Frentzen, and limped to a sixth-place finish for just one point.

"Ross Brawn (Ferrari technical director) told me I had 19 laps to pick up 25 seconds and I said `Thank you, I will obviously try my best'. And it turned out to be enough," said a delighted Schumacher. The gap between championship leader Hakkinen and nearest rival Schumacher has now been reduced to just seven points with four races to go.

Hill's Jordan team-mate Ralf Schumacher finished ninth after a poor weekend and Eddie Irvine in the second Ferrari retired at quarter distance suffering from transmission problems.
