The death of Tom Callinan in a road accident and the elevation of Joe McDonagh to president-elect of the GAA has forced a reshuffle in the Galway county board.

Miko Ryan, from the Craughwell club, has replaced Callinan as chairman of the hurling board, while Bernie O'Connor, the incumbent county secretary, replaces McDonagh on the central council of the GAA.

Since McDonagh was also vice-president of the Connacht council, he now vacates that position which will be filled by Phelim Murphy of the Turloughmore club. Michael Monaghan, from the same club, replaces Murphy as Connacht council delegate.

The positions were confirmed at a meeting of the county board on Monday night after a number of voting procedures were gone through.
