DEAN GALLAGHER is set to return to the saddle tomorrow after a two month absence. The jockey will step aboard Amercius at Market Rasen to bring to an end a frustrating spell caused by repeated breaking his collar bone.
"For the last few weeks I've been riding out at a few Flat yards toe sharpen my fitness and I'm really looking forward to getting cracking again, he said. "I broke my collar bone three times in the space of three weeks and Dr Turner told me it would be better to have a complete break - that's why I've been off for so long."
Meanwhile, Tyrone Williams yesterday ruled out an appeal against a four day baa imposed ford irresponsible riding. Mark Johnston's jockey is convinced he was unfairly punished for his riding of Ninia in the Mail on Sunday Mile Qualifier at Doncaster. Ninia was demoted from third to fourth after impeding the Kieren Fallon ridden Cashmere Lady.
"There's not much point in appealing - you never seem to win these things - but it was a bit harsh," said Williams. "There was a lot of bunching in the race and when a gap appeared I went for it first ahead of Kieren's mount. There's no way you could call it irresponsible."
Gary Hind was yesterday thanking his lucky stars after emerging relatively unscathed from a horrific fall at Doncaster. The Newmarket based jockey reported himself bruised but otherwise unhurt after his sickening tumble from Wentbridge Lad in the Mail on Sunday Mile Handicap.
Hind will meet the Jockey Club's medical adviser Dr Michael Turner before he sets a date for his comeback but he doesn't expect to be on the sidelines for much more than a week.
