Cavan SFC Final: Cavan Gaels 3-6 Mullahorab 1-8 Second-half goals from Cathal Collins and Anthony Forde ensured that Cavan Gaels would be crowned Cavan senior football champions at the expense of Mullahoran at Breffni Park yesterday.
Cavan Gaels looked in trouble when they trailed by 1-6 to 1-4 after 10 minutes of the second half and could well have been further behind as Mullahoran missed a number of vital scores.
The game took a dramatic turn when Cavan Gaels were awarded a penalty and Collins converted to give his side a one-point lead. Cavan Gaels exerted further pressure and a point from Paul O'Donnell gave them a little more breathing space.
Mullahoran were still very much in contention and a Philip Brady free left one point separating the teams with 10 minutes remaining.
Mullahoran pressed forward for the levelling score but were caught cold when a quick counter-attack by Cavan Gaels ended with Forde's goal with four minutes remaining.
The game then ended on a sour note with a number of incidents in injury-time which led to the dismissal of two Mullahoran players and one from Cavan Gaels.
