FAI Cup report: Two goals in the closing nine minutes of the first half proved sufficient to see Drogheda make it through to the last eight. Scores from Andy Myler and Declan O'Brien effectively killed off the game as a contest by half-time.

Drogheda were by far the better side in the opening half and they made their breakthrough when Myler's shot deceived visiting 'keeper Pat Jennings and nestled into the bottom corner of the UCD goal.

United grabbed the second goal seconds before half-time when goalkeeper Gary Rodgers's long kick out fell to O'Brien who headed the ball over Jennings and into an empty net.

The second half was a pretty tame affair with Drogheda content to sit on their lead and UCD unable to make the breakthrough. The students did create half chances, most notably when Alan Gallen fired narrowly wide.
