Derry City 2 Bohemians 0:DERRY CITY ended a worrying losing sequence at the Brandywell when putting Bohemians to the sword last night.
And while it was a deserved win for Declan Devine’s men, Derry’s nervous home attendance had to wait until five minutes from the end to make the game safe.
Winger Stephen McLaughlin drove the ball home to finally kill off the challenge of Bohs after what had been a poor match.
The home side bossed the ball for long spells and while Bohemians were prepared to sit and try to hit on the break, they failed to seriously test goalkeeper, Gerard Doherty. Derry’s dominance was deservedly rewarded in the 27th minute. Following a Simon Madden corner, the Bohemians defence failed to clear the danger and Derry striker, Conor Murphy, swivelled before driving a low shot to the net from 18 yards for his first goal since arriving from Monaghan.
Derry continued to dominate after the break but they failed to kill off the match until the 85th minute. However, having broken from the halfway line, Barry Molloy played a captain’s role when he unselfishly played the ball square to the unmarked McLaughlin who hammered it home past the advancing McNulty.
