Waterford United 2 Crumlin United 0:WATERFORD UNITED progressed into the last eight at the RSC last night when they proved too strong for non-league opposition Crumlin United.

The Dublin outfit had the winning of the drawn game at Richmond Park on Friday night last, but the home side were a much different outfit this time around.

The home side got off to a dream start with a goal after just three minutes. A long cross from Alan Carey out on the right found Graham Cummins on the edge of the area and his powerful shot took a wicked ricochet off a defender on its way to the net.

Waterford played with great confidence and a second goal arrived five minutes before half-time. Stephen Grant collected a pass from Cummins on the right and, after dodging past defender Damien Cuffe, he picked out Willie John Kiely at the near post. Kiely’s shot was deflected by Paul McCabe but the ball fell for Kevin Waters who gave goalkeeper Gareth Sutton no chance.

Crumlin never stopped believing and only a brilliant save by Michael Devine on 74 minutes from a Jonathan Clarke 16-yard effort prevented the visitors from creating a platform to launch a bid for an equaliser.
