PAUL CORRY’S transfer to Sheffield Wednesday for an undisclosed fee this week should set an example, and be an inspiration, for all promising young Irish footballers, according to UCD manager Martin Russell.

Corry (21) turned down a contract with Burnley three years ago to complete a commerce degree at UCD while playing for them in the League of Ireland.

“Far too many Irish players leave too early for too little,” said Russell. “When I signed Paul I told him UCD was the best option for a lad his age and I hope more like him will follow in his footsteps.”

Russell hopes to have strikers Dean Clarke and Samir Belhout back fit as second-bottom College host Bray Wanderers tonight.

Unbeaten in their last five league games, Bray’s only absentee is striker Jason Byrne, who is suspended.

A suspension for winger Gavin Brennan sees him miss second-in- the-table Drogheda United’s home clash with Dundalk. Injury sidelines central defender Alan McNally for another fortnight.

Dundalk remain without central defender Liam Burns (thigh).

Shamrock Rovers continue without defender Graham Gartland (back) and midfielder Stephen O’Donnell (hamstring) as they travel to Cork City.

Cork manager Tommy Dunne has a host of absentees, with goalkeeper Mark McNulty, left back Danny Murphy and striker Vinny Sullivan all suspended, while injury rules out John Dunleavy (ankle), Colin Healy (thigh), Cathal Lordan (knee) and Eoghan Murphy (ankle). Striker Davin O’Neill is a doubt with a chest infection.

Derry City will be without defender Stewart Greacen (suspended) for tonight’s trip to Shelbourne, with Kevin Deery and Rory Patterson still out injured.

Owen Morrison is a major doubt due to a groin injury suffered in training, while fellow winger Stephen McLaughlin and striker Mark Farren require fitness tests. Central defender Stephen Paisley and striker Philly Gorman are doubtful due to injuries for Shelbourne.
