Lilli Claire rewarded an embarrassing error by her trainer David Elsworth with a victory in the Listed Air Movement Group Fortune Stakes at Epsom yesterday. Elsworth's Whitsbury yard houses two decent inmates, Lilli Claire and Supercal, who boast roughly the same amount of ability and both operate at around a mile.

When Elsworth came to make the entries for the Listed Atalanta Stakes at Sandown, he wrote down the wrong horse's name.

Accordingly Supercal chased home Kissogram at Esher course leaving Lilli Claire, the trainer's intended runner there, to come to Epsom.

The arrangement worked to perfection as the five-year-old mare, starting at 4 to 1, took up the running for Tim Sprake half a furlong out and proved a length and a quarter too good for Wenda, with 4 to 9 favourite Ramooz and Kieren Fallon a disappointing third two lengths further back.

Half an hour previously Fallon had enjoyed better fortune on an odds-on favourite as Generous Libra justified his price of 8 to 15 with his second course and distance success in four days in the Vaillant Rated Stakes.

John Dunlop's bay had a firm grip of his bridle when winning last Monday and hardly found things more difficult yesterday, leading over one out and beating Shadoof by four lengths.

Geoff Lewis, who revealed on Wednesday that he is considering a move from his Epsom base at Thirty Acre Barn, saddled Parisien Star - running in the colours of his stable stalwart Perion - for his first success in the United House Nursery.
