RACING: Khetaam and Paul Carberry put up the performance of the afternoon at Tipperary yesterday when the pair ran out half-length winners of the highly competitive conditions hurdle.

Noel Meade's charge went to the front at the second last and kept on well to beat Puck Out and Friend's Amigo.

"He was a nice horse last year and has strengthened up over the summer. We'll go to Down Royal next month for a second season hurdle," said Meade.

Carberry had earlier ridden Quadco to success in the Novice Chase. The 1 to 2 favourite jumped quite deliberately in the early stages but he soon found his rhythm and eventually won by a distance after his main rival Three Gents parted company with Conor O'Dwyer at the third last.

David Fitzgerald, who trains under permit in Askeaton, sent out Iaskofyou to win the handicap chase under Mark Grant. The Jolly Jake gelding took up the running at the second last and stayed on to beat Francines-Boy by a length.

Aidan O'Brien and Michael Kinane teamed up to land the opening maiden with Colossal. The 2 to 1 chance went straight into the lead and drew clear in the straight to beat Maxxium by five lengths. The favourite, Phantasos, was a further four lengths back in third.

Haratila and Fran Berry took the other juvenile maiden when they proved four-and-a-half lengths too strong for Max Scal. The John Oxx-trained filly, a 11 to 10 favourite, was described as "a nice mile-and-a-half filly for next year" by assistant trainer Jim O'Neill.

Pat Smullen produced the Dermot Weld-trained Legend Has It with a powerful late run to collar King Of Peace and Guest Artist well inside the final furlong.
