TIPPERARY SFC FINAL/Moyle Rovers 3-6 Aherlow 1-11:A QUALITY goal from former All-Star Declan Browne sent Moyle Rovers on their way to victory at Thurles yesterday. Browne struck in the 52nd minute as his side rallied to lead an Aherlow outfit which seemed destined to win the title. Browne scored 2-4 and was the most influential player as Aherlow pressed their rivals.
Aherlow raced into a 0-3 to 0-1 lead but in the sixth minute Browne slotted a Rovers penalty to the net after full forward Pádraig Foley was fouled. In the 25th minute Aherlow’s Thomas Hanley fisted a Barry Grogan delivery to the net to give his side a 1-7 to 1-3 lead at the interval.
Aherlow held steady until the 46th minute when Moyle substitute Diarmuid Foley landed a great goal to leave only a point between the sides. Six minutes later Declan Browne finished brilliantly to the net after Martin Dunne and Diarmuid Foley created the chance. Browne pointed two minutes later before going off injured. Rovers then had Paul Johnson sidelined with a second yellow card.
Aherlow’s Barry Grogan pointed two frees, and a late effort from Seamie Grogan for a leveller tailed wide to leave Rovers champions for the sixth time.
