A STORMING last 12 minutes by Antrim snatched them an important win in yesterday's Division Two battle with Dublin at Casement Park. Antrim rifled over five points in those closing stages.
Dublin will surely reflect on a string of wasted chances in the early stages. At least three opportunities for goals went abegging, with the easiest of them being in the fifth minute, when Kevin Flynn missed the target while only a few yards out.
That was one of four remarkable wides during the first five minutes by Dublin and before the interval they wasted two more chances of goals.
Dublin went ahead in the 12th minute with a snap goal by Gerry Ennis and John Twomey added a point from a free. But long range points from Conor McCambridge and John Connolly pushed Antrim into the lead, and they were in front 0-7 to 1-1 at half-time. Two minutes after the re-start, Connolly added another point; but then four scores from Dublin level led the match with just over 13 minutes left for play.
It was then that Antrim turned on the style. John Carson snapped up two points - the second a magnificent effort from 45 metres.
The big Cushendall man left the field a few minutes from the end with blood pouring from his head after an off-the-ball incident.
With the game sewn up for Antrim, at 0-13 to 1-5, Ennis had the last say with a Dublin point. But it was too little too late.
