Madam, - I walked into Dublin on Car-free Day and found it very difficult to pass down O'Connell Street because people don't know whether to walk on the left or right side of the footpath.
In Europe, everyone walks on the right, and walking along the street is enjoyable. But in Dublin we don't know which side to walk on.
Perhaps campaign groups such as Reclaim the Streets could arrange for arrows to be painted on the footpaths at regular intervals along the tourist pathways from O'Connell Street to Grafton Street to encourage us to walk in pedestrian lanes. Then we could all make better use of the streets. - Yours, etc.,
