Sir, – Dublin Airport taxi drivers should collectively be ashamed of themselves (Front page, August 23rd). At a time when the country is fighting tooth and nail to get tourists and business people to frequent Ireland, they seem to think it is acceptable to cause a spectacle at the main entry point to the country.
Hopefully the various private bus operators at the airport will seize the opportunity to grab taxi customers and not give them back. – Yours, etc,
Sir, – A visitor’s first and last impression of Ireland is the point of entry. A visitor’s view of Ireland this week would be that as a nation we are either incompetent or a failed state (possibly both).
I have spent a morning in a conference room, surrounded by Ireland’s best and brightest, awaiting a colleague. He is stuck at the airport.
I do not blame the taxi drivers – responsibility lies firmly with the DAA, which has failed to plan for this strike or to adequately provide additional bus services. Not even the cash machines were working at the airport today.
If the DAA cannot manage change maybe they should change management? I vote for Michael O’Leary – but I guess he is not the quango type. – Yours, etc,
