Sir, – Taoiseach Enda Kenny has been criticised for referring to Michael Collins being shot dead on August 22nd, 1922 as an “assassination”. In his 1984 Collins commemoration oration, then Fine Gael minister for justice Michael Noonan referred to it as “murder”, prompting former anti-Treaty republican and senior civil servant, Todd Andrews, to respond, “Michael Collins was not murdered.
