Sir, - I have never in my longlife voted for Fianna Fail. By tradition I have supported Labour. I have also voted for promising new parties, hoping to break up the log jam of civil war politics on this island. I realise now, that it has become essential that Fianna Fail, with or without the PDs, must be returned at the next election.
Labour see a future where they will always be the tail wagging whatever dog happens to be in power. They must be disillusioned. I never like the arrogance and questionable behaviour of Fianna Fail, but it took them decades in power to become so. Labour have been arrogant and questionable from the day they contrived to be in power. If they need their hosts of advisors, consultants, et al (at the public expense), they should not be in the kitchen at all.
When we look back at government in Ireland, surely Dick Spring must be the most expensive minister in the history of the State. Like them or not, only Fianna Fail are in a position to stop Labour playing ducks and drakes with this country. - Yours, etc.,
