The church and salvation

Madam, - E.M. O' Hanlon's zeal for the Catholic Church is laudable (October 20th). However, the Catechism of the Catholic Church itself refutes her claim that outside the Catholic Church there is no salvation, by qualifying that particular stance of "Lumen Gentium" , the dogmatic constitution of the Church, stating that all who seek God with a sincere heart "may achieve eternal salvation". One's sense of justice and common sense cannot but concur with this position. -Yours, etc.,
