Madam, - My daughter's teacher cannot speak or teach Irish, but my daughter is being taught Irish by the sixth-class teacher. At these times my daughter's teacher takes the sixth class for science and/or PE. So Dáithí Mac Cárthaigh (October 20th) can rest easy! - Yours, etc.,

Madam , - I read with incredulity the article on Ms Janet Doherty, the teacher who was dismissed last month for failing an Irish exam (Education Today, October 14th). The school where she taught must now appoint a replacement.
How ironic it would be if the replacement, as allowed by the rules, was a new teacher trained outside the State; and whose only advantage over Ms Doherty was a complete lack of Irish and six years less teaching experience. - Yours, etc.
