Sir, - In answer to Catherine Ghent's question (July 14th), I am one who would enthusiastically support an all-Ireland SDLP. Her passionate description of this party's work for the people of Northern Ireland, and of the great leadership and integrity of Hume and Mallon, is inspiring and made me wish I'd had the idea myself. Were we to have a development such as this to look forward to, things political mightn't seem so bad.
On the grounds that there might be someone out there actually worth encouraging, I would strongly consider voting again. An SDLP presence south of the Border would also be a fine practical expression of common interest and co-operation, con tributing further to real unity. But, best of all, wouldn't it scare the pants off the shower down here? - Yours, etc.,
Philip Jackson, The Steeples, Chapelizod, Dublin 20.
