Madam, - As a relief postman on two country rounds in south Galway, I cannot agree with your Editorial writer of September 5th that An Post is a "dinosaur" comparing unfavourably with other means of communication.

Postal deliveries and face-to-face encounters with the customer play a large part in country life. Farm incomes very often come in the form of a cheque from the mart or some other farming body, and the village post office remains a great meeting place and source of information.
