Madam, - I feel the most telling phrase in Liam Reid's article on the N11 through the Glen of the Downs (Weekend Review, October 18th) was that it will be "one of the most environmentally sensitive ever built in Europe".
This is surely a cause for congratulations to the Co Wicklow engineers and planners, who have worked to safeguard a delicate habitat as best they could against the overwhelming force of the internal combustion engine. - Yours, etc.,

Madam, - What is the logic behind upgrading six kilometres of single carriageway to dual carriageway (motorway standard) at enormous expense, time and inconvenience , and then putting a 40 m.p.h. limit on it - 20 m.p.h. lower than the original carriageway. Have I missed something? - Yours, etc.,
