Madam, - In response to Marc Steuer's letter about the car-park charge at the Cliffs of Moher (September 19th), I must point out the considerable expense incurred by Clare County Council in maintaining the site.
Walkways, toilets, waste water treatment systems and litter collection all have to be continually provided and improved at a place which attracts some 750,000 people annually.
The site currently is far from satisfactory and a major project, estimated to cost €25 million, is "ready to go"; it will offer truly superb visitor facilities at a world-renowned tourist attraction.
Rather than trying to rip off tourists, Clare County Council is trying to create a world-class visitor experience at a world class location.- Yours, etc.,
GERARD DOLLARD, Director of Service, Clare County Council, Ennis.
