Sir, - As two senior members of the nursing profession, we write to support your excellent editorial of February 10th, in which you encourage acceptance of the Labour Court recommendations on pay and conditions for nurses. In particular, we endorse the long overdue commission which will undoubtedly highlight the dramatic changes that have taken place in nursing. These include changes in clinical practice as well as in education, research and management.
Nurses can feel justifiably proud of what has been achieved without losing public sympathy or the support of professional colleagues in other disciplines. We strongly encourage them to support the proposed commission, which we trust will ensure a future for nursing as a united profession that can play a leading role in the provision of quality health care in this country.
