Sir, - After a long number of years of medical practice, we are still impressed by the professionalism, levels of skill and unending hard work of our nurse colleagues.

We cannot believe that any minister for health is going to force them to picket lines by ignoring their justified pleas for a decent level of pay commensurate with their training and skills.

If nurses are forced to strike we will all lose. They will stop think ing about what they do as "my work" and start thinking of it as "the job". Something intangible and immeasurable will be lost from the nurse patient relationship, if this dispute is not settled quickly. - Yours, etc.,
